Farewell to Home Group
After almost two years and four months of service with Home Group in Reading, my time with the housing association came to an end on Friday 1 August. I was a Housing Officer looking after around 250 properties in the Wokingham area, but, after exploring other opportunities, I made the decision to move on.
The decision to leave was not an easy one to make. In fact, it was near impossible. In the 24 hours after being offered a new role, I had all sorts of thoughts in my head and I couldn’t whether to stay or go. There was so much to consider – a 1 mile journey to work becoming 18 miles, the difference in salary, the need to start all over again with new customers etc.
For probably the first time in my life, I was happy in my work. I had a patch of great customers and I was supported by a great team in the office as well. I am sure that with some customers, the feeling will not have been mutual. I can understand that being hounded to pay rent and reminded again and again not to cause a nuisance might have become irritating after a while!
So, it’s onwards and upwards as I embark on another social housing adventure. I’m really looking forward to a new patch, a new challenge and the experience of working for another registered social landlord.
